Plan a visit

Access not confirmed — The Amarna Project provides visitor information for the wider archaeological site, but its current suggested itinerary does not explicitly confirm admission to this particular palace. Confirm the palace area with the site ticket office; access to Amarna is not proof that every excavation area is open.

18th Dynasty

History & Character

The King’s House is the modern name for a palace enclosure linked to Amarna’s Great Palace by a raised bridge. It contained a tree-lined court, apartments and substantial storage areas. Painted scenes included Akhenaten and Nefertiti with their daughters.

A small stepped platform may have served as a throne dais. The excavators’ names do not establish how the buildings were used: the precise function of the King’s House and its relationship to the larger palace remain uncertain. Its surviving layout is archaeological evidence, not an intact royal residence.
