Interiors and collections
The palace as part of the display
The former residence has eastern and western wings joined by a corridor, with a basement and two floors in each wing. The ministry describes paintings, gilded ceilings and mosaics within rooms combining European and Islamic influences. These architectural surfaces form an important part of the museum experience alongside the objects in showcases.
A dynastic collection in a princess’s house
The Royal Jewelry Museum brings together possessions associated with several generations of the Muhammad Ali dynasty. They should not all be attributed to Fatma al-Zahra personally. The official overview identifies a diamond-and-emerald collar associated with Muhammad Ali Pasha, a gold chessboard, jewel-encrusted binoculars and elaborate jewellery sets once worn by queens and princesses.
Planning an interior visit
