A Royal Landscape
Montaza was not one palace but a coastal royal landscape. Its history began under Abbas II Hilmi in 1892 and later acquired another major layer under King Fuad I.
Salamlek
Salamlek served as a summer residence of the royal family and survives in hospitality use. This gives Montaza a direct place in the Royal Palaces You Can Stay In collection.
Haramlik
King Fuad I commissioned Haramlik in 1925; official Arabic material dates construction to 1925–1929 and attributes the design to the Italian architect Ferrucci.
A Multi-Generational Estate
Montaza therefore belongs to Abbas II, Fuad I and Farouk rather than to a single reign. It preserves the seasonal Mediterranean geography of Egypt's last royal house.
Why It Matters
Montaza shows why gardens, coastline, multiple buildings and seasonal movement must be treated as part of palace history rather than as background scenery.
