Interiors and collections
Reception rooms and private accommodation
Alexandre Marcel designed the palace for the Belgian industrialist Baron Édouard Empain between 1907 and 1911. Behind its Indian-inspired exterior, the house has a clearly organised domestic plan. Reception, dining and billiard rooms occupy the ground floor; the upper floor contains four rooms with their own bathrooms and balconies. Service accommodation occupied the basement. These are historic room functions, not a promise that every space is included in the present visitor route.
An exhibition about Heliopolis
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities describes the restored palace as a setting for the history of Heliopolis. Archival photographs, architectural plans, maps and explanatory panels connect the building with the surrounding district and its heritage. This documentary presentation should not be confused with a complete recreation of the baron’s furnished household. Looking at the rooms and the exhibition together helps explain both the private residence and the urban project associated with its owner.
Palace and roof admission
The official monument page lists public visiting hours and distinguishes palace admission from a roof ticket. Check the current ticket categories before assuming that roof access is included. The roof is part of the historic design, but access arrangements and the available route must be checked separately from the description of the building. Official visitor information was consulted on 10 October 2026.
