A Palace of the Extended Royal House
Prince Omar Toussoun belonged to the Muhammad Ali dynasty. His Shubra residence therefore belongs in the dynastic layer of the Royal Palaces Registry, although it was not a sovereign palace or seat of government.
Date Control
CULTNAT records the monument at 1303 AH / 1886 CE. Later newspaper and popular heritage accounts frequently give 1892. Royal Palaces retains 1886 as the current canonical heritage-record date while preserving the later date as a documented conflict.
After the Monarchy
The property was later used for educational purposes and suffered serious fire damage. Its surviving fabric is therefore classified separately from its verified dynastic provenance.
Why It Matters
Omar Toussoun opens a new layer of the Egypt dossier: the dispersed residences of princes whose intellectual, cultural and social lives extended well beyond the formal court.
