Princess Faiqa Palace

قصر الأميرة فائقة · Qaṣr al-Amīra Fāʾiqa

A palace built by Khedive Ismail for Princess Faiqa that survived for decades behind the institutional identity of Egypt’s Ministry of Education.

A Palace in Al-Munira

Khedive Ismail created a cluster of family residences in al-Munira. Princess Faiqa’s palace belonged to this dynastic geography and occupied a substantial garden estate.

Date Under Audit

Published Egyptian accounts give dates around 1872–1874. Royal Palaces therefore retains a date range until archival property records establish the exact commissioning and completion sequence.

From Palace to Ministry

From 1931 the education administration used the palace, which eventually became the headquarters of the Ministry of Education. Bureaucratic use preserved the building while obscuring its dynastic origin.

Why It Matters

Princess Faiqa Palace is a model example of adaptive reuse that changes public memory: generations knew the building as a ministry rather than as a royal-family residence.
