Franz Joseph I / Franz Joseph I.

Emperor / Kaiser · 1830–1916

Franz Joseph was born at Schönbrunn in 1830, in the east-wing apartments of his parents Franz Karl and Sophie. During childhood and youth he spent summers at the palace. At the beginning of his reign he moved into west-wing apartments facing the Parade Court and retained their use until his death on 21 November 1916. These facts describe several different relationships with Schönbrunn, not continuous residence from birth to death.
