Interiors and collections
The Four Seasons Salon: a new setting for old furniture
In May 2026, Breteuil presented four reception rooms redecorated by Jacques Garcia. The Four Seasons Salon now displays the La Fontaine furniture, stamped Bernard and commissioned for the château in 1771, alongside eighteenth-century Chinese lacquer pieces. The furniture is historic; its present placement belongs to the recent redesign.
Royal scenes as interpretation
The Marie-Antoinette boudoir evokes the young dauphine through objects associated with her, including a spinning wheel. Another room reconstructs Louis XVI’s Versailles study and presents the context of the Queen’s Necklace affair in 1785. These are interpretive settings at Breteuil, not evidence that the rooms were the royal couple’s original apartments.
The Empire Salon and family history
Despite its name, Garcia’s treatment of the Empire Salon explores Napoleon III-era taste, with patterned fabrics and densely grouped family portraits. Together, the redesigned rooms place preserved objects within a contemporary presentation of the family’s history. Follow the guided château route and confirm arrangements on the official visitor page.
