Louise Cahen d’Anvers

Collector / co-owner / garden patron

Champs-sur-Marne acquired with Louis in 1895

Who they were

Louise Cahen d’Anvers participated with her husband Louis in acquiring and restoring Champs-sur-Marne in 1895. The official monument history credits the couple together with their enthusiasm for eighteenth-century art and the renewal of the residence.

Her individual interests are particularly visible in the grounds. The flower garden near the orangery was created at her request and supplied flowers for the house. Louis commissioned the trellis garden salon for her from Henri and Achille Duchêne, using an eighteenth-century published model.

These details identify her as an active participant in the estate’s domestic and garden life. This short account concentrates on her documented contribution at Champs; it does not attempt a complete life history.
