Rohan-Soubise family
Princely noble family / residence owners and patrons
Residence acquired: 1700; remodelling: 1705–1708
Who they were
François de Rohan-Soubise and his wife Anne bought the former Hôtel de Guise in 1700. They employed Pierre Alexis Delamair to transform it into a residence expressing their rank at Louis XIV’s court. A later generation commissioned new interiors from Germain Boffrand. The family entry separates successive patrons from the architects they employed; the mansion passed into state ownership in 1808 and became an archives building.
