Fanningbank — Government House
Canada → Prince Edward Island → Charlottetown
Fanningbank was built in 1834 as the residence of Prince Edward Island’s lieutenant governors. The large timber-framed house uses a Georgian architectural vocabulary and remains associated with the provincial representative of the Crown. Canada’s heritage register records Queen Elizabeth II’s stay in 1959. A royal visit is evidence of temporary occupancy, not private royal ownership. The grounds and the residential interior have distinct visitor arrangements, reflecting the house’s continuing official role.
