Government House, Edmonton
Canada → Alberta → Edmonton
Government House opened on 7 October 1913, with George H. V. Bulyea the first of six resident lieutenant governors. It served as a viceregal home until 1938, when financial and political pressures ended that use. A documented stay by the Prince of Wales, later Edward VIII, occurred in 1919; this does not make him its owner. The house subsequently had other institutional uses. Today, historical furnishings and a Canadian art collection help explain a residence whose role changed with provincial politics.
Visiting
The provincial page states that the house is closed to general walk-in access. Admission is free for scheduled public tours and some public events; tea events can be ticketed. Use the official events programme to establish an actual visit date rather than assuming daily opening.
