Government House Fredericton — 1787 residence

Canada → New Brunswick → Fredericton

The first governor’s residence at Fredericton was built in 1787 and destroyed by fire in 1825, according to Parks Canada. The present Old Government House replaced it in 1828. The distinction matters when reading the estate’s long history: the surviving Palladian residence and its interiors belong to the replacement, not to this eighteenth-century house.

Visiting

The 1787 house was destroyed; no visit to its interiors is possible. Consult the separate page for the surviving Fredericton Government House when planning a visit. The historic-site designation is not evidence that the earlier house survives.
