Government House, Victoria
Canada → British Columbia → Victoria
The present Government House opened on 19 May 1959. It is the third Government House on this site since 1865, so the history of its predecessors must not be assigned wholesale to the surviving building. The residence and office of the lieutenant governor combine provincial ceremony with a landscaped estate. The house broadly follows the earlier Rattenbury and Maclure design. Gardens and woodland form an important part of the visitor experience, independently of interior admission.
Visiting
Gardens are publicly accessible free of charge. Interior visits depend on announced tour dates; consult the official programme before travelling. This is not unrestricted access to an occupied residence.
