Interiors and collections

The throne hall and dynastic portraits

The Throne Saray has two floors. Its long lower hall leads towards a throne, with red-upholstered gilded furniture along the sides and a golden sunburst at the centre of the ceiling. A portrait of Muhammad Ali Pasha, founder of the dynasty, hangs behind the throne. The ministry identifies Hidayat as the painter of the dynastic portraits and landscapes displayed on the side walls.

Upper rooms: tapestry, tiles and family furnishings

A tiled marble staircase leads to three upper chambers. The Aubusson Room takes its name from its French wall tapestries; another salon combines Islamic ceramic wall tiles with blue-and-white wares. The final hall contains a four-poster bed associated with the prince’s mother, Amina Ilhamy, and a gilded wooden fireplace. These are descriptions of the museum’s historic rooms, rather than a guarantee that every room is included in a particular visit.

A palace composed of several traditions

The ministry describes Manial’s design as a combination of Persian, Mamluk, Syrian, Moroccan, Andalusian and Ottoman influences. Separate reception, residential and ceremonial buildings give the estate several distinct interior settings. Its published visitor rules explicitly exclude the garden from the tour. Check the current route before planning a visit around a particular room.
