RPR-TUR-021 · IMPERIAL PRINCESS PALACE
Adile Sultan Palace
A dynastic summer residence at Kandilli created for Sultan Mahmud II's daughter Adile Sultan.
The Story
Abdülmecid acquired an earlier pavilion at Kandilli for his sister Adile Sultan in 1856. Under Abdülaziz the old building was demolished and replaced by the large masonry palace that survives today. Adile Sultan later donated the property for educational use, linking an imperial princess residence with the history of women's education in Istanbul.
Later Life
The palace became a girls' school, suffered a major fire in 1986, and after restoration reopened as a cultural and event venue.
