RPR-TUR-029 · DYNASTIC WOMEN
Kadırga Palace
A lost palace with a long eighteenth- and nineteenth-century history of imperial women's residence.
The Story
Kadırga Palace moved repeatedly between government and dynastic use. Academic reconstruction records Esma Sultan's marriage there in 1757 and Hibetullah Sultan's residence after her 1803 marriage. The palace fell out of use after Hibetullah Sultan's death in 1841.
Why It Matters
Kadırga reinforces one of the strongest themes emerging in the Turkey registry: Ottoman dynastic women possessed a substantial palace geography of their own.
