RPR-TUR-026 · IMPERIAL PRINCESS PALACE
Zekiye Sultan Palace
The Ortaköy residence of Abdülhamid II's daughter Zekiye Sultan.
The Story
After her marriage in 1889, Zekiye Sultan was allocated a palace at Ortaköy. Academic research into her life documents not only the residence but the cultural world inside it: music ensembles, prominent musicians, religious staff and a large dynastic household.
Her story is particularly useful because it allows Royal Palaces to reconstruct palace life beyond the sovereign's own apartments.
