Château Ramezay
Canada → Quebec → Montréal
Claude de Ramezay commissioned this stone residence in 1705 after becoming governor of Montréal. Completed in spring 1706, it housed his family until his death in 1724. His widow subsequently rented it to Intendant Gilles Hocquart for use in Montréal. The building’s later institutional and museum history means that today’s displays should not be read as an intact household left by the governor. Its residential origin and documented political occupants establish its place in this catalogue.
