Manoir de Charleville

Canada → Quebec → Boischatel → 5580 avenue Royale

The Canadian heritage register dates the oldest part of this stone house to 1660–1667; other regional descriptions give later dates, so the range is attributed rather than treated as an uncontested year of completion. The elongated house grew through successive extensions beneath a steep hipped roof. Its seigneurial status was brief: Charles Aubert de La Chesnaye and Charles Bazire obtained a fief for their land in 1677, but it returned to the Beaupré seigneurie in 1694. The names of these landowners explain Charleville; they do not establish continuous personal residence by either man. Later alterations belong to the same evolving house.

Visiting

No current public tour programme, opening hours or permission to enter the grounds was established. Heritage registration and the commemorative plaque do not guarantee admission. Do not confuse nearby property listings on Avenue de Charleville with access to this manor on Avenue Royale.
