Pendarves / Cumberland House
Canada → Ontario → Toronto
Architect Frederic William Cumberland built Pendarves as his own Italianate house, completed in 1860. It later provided temporary accommodation for Ontario’s lieutenant-governors while Chorley Park was being finished, in 1912–1915. The University of Toronto acquired it in 1923. A 1966 restoration formed another stage in a building repeatedly adapted for university use. The university’s historical account describes its staircase and stained-glass dome; those features do not establish a public house-museum route.
Visiting
The University of Toronto identifies Cumberland House at 33 St George Street as its Centre for International Experience. Published resource-hub hours relate to student services and a July–August period, not a public heritage-tour programme. General tourist access to the historic interiors remains unconfirmed.
