Château Saint-Louis — surviving remains
Canada → Quebec → Québec City
The château was the residential seat of French and then British governors above the St Lawrence. Frontenac’s enlargement, completed in 1723, incorporated earlier residential fabric. Repairs followed the bombardment of 1759, and James Craig later remodelled the residence in Palladian taste. Fire destroyed it in 1834. Archaeological remains beneath Dufferin Terrace reveal service spaces and the organisation of a governor’s household. This entry concerns the château and its surviving remains; it does not combine the separate Château Haldimand or the modern Château Frontenac hotel into the same building.
