Château Haldimand — lost residence
Canada → Quebec → Québec City
Governor Frederick Haldimand commissioned this building in the 1780s as a residential and administrative centre. The Goethe-Institut dates construction to 1784–1786; Haldimand himself returned to Europe during this period, so commissioning the building should not be confused with proven residence in the completed château. It was demolished in 1892 and replaced on the site by Château Frontenac. That hotel is a different physical building, not a converted Haldimand palace. Château Saint-Louis nearby was also a distinct residence.
Visiting
The original château has been demolished. A visit or stay at Château Frontenac cannot be described as entering this residence. Use the historical sources and the related Saint-Louis record to understand the different buildings.
