Government House — Fort Townshend

Canada → Newfoundland and Labrador → St. John’s → Fort Townshend

Richard Edwards and his family moved into the Fort Townshend summer residence in 1781. The two-storey, slate-roofed house served successive governors until 1831. Additions and poor maintenance made it difficult to heat. A 1971 provincial government account places its demolition in the 1830s. It is distinct from the present Government House and from the temporary Stripling residence.
